David Kates
David Kates is an accomplished pianist and composer for media and the healing arts. With over 115 million Spotify streams to his credit, David continues to attract new listeners while stretching into uncharted territory with his most recent 20th album, "...And Then There Was Night..." a new gorgeous collection of Genesis songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's arranged as lullabies.
His professional work as a composer ranges from Disney cartoons and video game scores to documentaries and feature films. Credits include the successful game franchises Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Battlestations: Pacific. Film and Television credits include Sing Me a Story with Belle (Disney), Israel in a Time of Terror, The Scarecrow, Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, and the 13th Annual Young Hollywood Awards.
David studied documentary film making at Temple University while studying jazz piano performance with James Amadie and film scoring at UCLA with Don Ray. Working as a music director, accompanist, and choral conductor for the past 25 years in Los Angeles, David collaborated with artists such as Tyne Daly (Gypsy, Cagney & Lacey), Theodore Bikel (Fiddler on the Roof), and Nicole Richie.
In 2019, David began his current passion composing and producing music for jazz, meditation, the healing arts and children’s lullabies. His latest project, David Kates & The Fall Guys is an innovative, live bossa nova/jazz band performing David's original music throughout Porto, Portugal where is resides.
