Described as ‘a brilliant young pianist’ (Alyn Shipton, The Guardian) Paul Edis is a performer, composer, educator and promoter based in the North East England.
He has released several albums with his sextet, with saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos, the Ushaw Ensemble and as a solo artist. Reviewing Paul’s 2015 solo CD Just Like Me critic Brian Morton described Paul as ‘a significant new voice in British Jazz’. His music has been performed on the radio in the UK, in Europe and in the US.
Paul regularly receives commissions to compose and arrange new music for all sorts of line-ups and occasions. A melodist at heart, he is just as comfortable writing songs as writing for symphony orchestra, and he has a particular interest in longer form composition.
Paul was selected to take part in the prestigious Take 5 talent development scheme run by Serious in 2017. In 2019, Paul has been given the title of Associate Artist for Sage Gateshead.
