Jonathan Stevens
Jonathan Stevens
Jonathan Stevens has been a songwriter for over 40 years. His first album, Creationland, was released on Flying Fish Records in 1987. The title track was included on both the Fast Folk Musical Magazine and All Ears Review. His second album, Arrows of Words, recorded at Roy Harper’s home studio in England in 1990, was released only on cassette. This was followed by Missing in America, produced by Walter Strauss in Ithaca, NY (1993) and included such luminaries as Hank Roberts on cello and the Burns Sisters on back-up vocals. In the meantime, Stevens learned how to be a stay-at-home-dad (twice over), and an artisan baker. For the 15th anniversary of his shop, Hungry Ghost Bread, he recorded Bread & Butter Songs, with the help of producer and songwriter Charlie Braun. Recently (April 2022), he and some friends hunkered down for a weekend at the Institute for Musical Arts (run by Ann Hackler and June Millington) in Goshen, Massachusetts. Goshen Barn Songs is the result: recorded live without overdubs. This collection features songs about Richard Brautigan and Wallace Stevens, local floods and flooded hearts, ballads and blues and quirky half-wit rhymes. Players include Stephen Katz on cello, John Kleber on electric guitar, and acclaimed novelist Rachel Lyon on violin. More Info
