Edward McCormack
While still at the beginning of his career, Edward McCormack has already written music for DreamWorks animations, BBC documentaries, and works alongside Hollywood’s top composers on their own projects (including David Buckley, John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rupert Gregson-Williams and Mac Quayle). Ed is equally at home writing music for the concert hall. He has written music for many soloists (inc. Saul Bitran, first violinist of the multi-Grammy award winning Cuarteto Latinoamericano) and chamber ensembles (inc. the Emerson String Quartet). For more than a decade before college, Ed studied classical composition and piano performance with alumni from The Juilliard School. Then, graduating “Summa Cum Laude” with one of the highest GPAs in the college's history, Ed was the first student to graduate from Berklee College of Music with four majors and two minors. Highly influenced by the composition and storytelling techniques of John Williams, Ed enjoys using music to add information that is not conveyed on screen or in the dialogue. In this way, music “lengthens the script” and enriches the story by expanding the amount of important information in each scene where music is (or is not) present. Ed firmly believes that music has as much to do with film scoring as paint has to do with the Mona Lisa; music is nothing more than the cheap and worthless paint. And it’s the “painting” or storytelling that one does with music that is the art, not the music itself. More Info
