In a career spanning over five decades, David Essex has been—and remains—a star of many genres.
From recording artist to live concerts and the theatre stage, he has conquered them all. He is one of the few recording artists to have made credible films, including his performance in 1973’s ’THAT’LL BE THE DAY' (along with Ringo Starr). The film is now regarded as a classic of its kind.
A gifted stage performer, he excelled in musicals such as GODSPELL as JESUS, and many others, including EVITA as CHE and MUTINY, which he co-wrote and in which he starred as FLETCHER CHRISTIAN.
Later this year, David will embark on the multi-date UK THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES concert tour, opening at Lavenham’s historic theatre on September 3 and ending at the London Palladium on September 29.During the tour, he will perform many of his hits, a testament to his songwriting skills. These hits include 'ROCK ON’, which was an international success, reaching number 5 on the US Billboard chart in 1974. The song was a major hit again in the USA in 1989 when it was recorded by Michael Damian, achieving the number 1 position on Billboard. Altogether, David has had 19 UK top hits, including the now-standard ‘HOLD ME CLOSE', which has also featured in major television and cinema commercials, and ‘GONNA MAKE YOU A STAR’. He has also released 16 top 40 albums.
ROCK ON DAVID!
