Basil Byrne
After a decade of playing trumpet in bands Basil explodes into her solo project. Singing honest lyrics about uncertainty, love and the in-between. Tunes from over your back fence that make you wanna grab a crate and jump over. Growing up in western Sydney in the 90s, Basil represents the sounds that she heard blasting from neighbour's TVs and boom boxes in her childhood.
Inspired by Balkan, Turkish and Arabic folk and dance music Basil is unashamedly herself, blending these styles with RnB and dance music. More commonly, you might hear melodies like this in Europe or the Middle East, but Basil acknowledges the diversity that is diaspora in Australia. Basil adds her unique suburbs twang in her tone of singing, don't ask her to do it any other way.
Individual and independent Basil writes, performs and releases her music, collaborating with friend and producer Fabian Acuna AKA Mr Kapow.
