Washa X
Hailing from Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, this genre-fluid vocalist seamlessly blends South African dance music with hip-hop textures. His distinct performance style is deeply rooted in his upbringing, drawing raw cadence cues from the township dance music that constantly blasted from his father’s taxi. Combined with the hip-hop and gospel tapes that played in his mother’s car on the morning school run, these contrasting childhood soundtracks perfectly shaped his versatile sound and vocal delivery.Demonstrating his impressive sonic range, he has collaborated with Gqom hitmaker Thobeka as well as YungBoyVegeta, a standout member of SA Hip Hop's buzzing collective, The Qwellers. Following a recent cover feature on Spotify’s flagship Gqom Powerhouse playlist, he continues to bridge raw, underground club energy with global crossover appeal.
