Davide Giovannini
Davide Giovannini is a composer, drummer, percussionist, vocalist and studio producer born in Trieste Italy. He’s well-known on the British and international scene and is celebrated for his inventiveness and creative approach to music. His reputation for excellence has resulted with him performing and recording with some of the world’s top jazz, latin, world and pop personalities such as Roy Hargrove, Lisa Stansfield, Sir Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Bjork, Bebel Gilberto, Negrocan, Cleveland Watkiss and Roy Ayers amongst others. As a bandleader, Davide has led various ensembles showcasing his compositional skills, notably Afroshock, a dynamic percussion and voice duo (alongside percussionist, Maurizio Ravalico) exploring traditional and Cuban folkloric grooves, marrying them with funk and jazz-fusion overtones. Davide’s 1st solo album release ‘Minas Project’ (2012) is a tribute to the music of Minas Gerais, an area in the southeast region of Brazil as well known for its wealth of minerals and mining as it is for its own unique music sound. His most current release ‘Spiders Tango’ (2020) is a collaboration between tabla player Kuljit Bhamra and the Villers String Quartet. Best described as a vibrant tapestry of sound, the music bursts with intricate polyrhythms, graciously smeared with melodic strings, all representing the interwoven cultures of India through to Cuba and beyond.
