Some music moves the body. UPZ makes music that moves something deeper.
A South African producer at the heart of the country's global house movement, UPZ has spent two decades crafting sounds at the intersection of deep house, Afro house, and soul — music that breathes, grooves, and lingers after the last note fades. Releases on Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Objecktivity, and Tony Records confirmed what dance floors already knew: this was an artist building something with staying power.
At home, UPZ became a fixture at the top of the charts — “Pure Surprise” reached No.1 nationally, alongside standout records like “Uzongilinda” (with Maleh & Qness), “Afrika Wo-man” (with Black Motion), “Love Is Not For Hire” (including a Black Coffee remix), and “A Dream Away” (with Sio & Cuebur). His album *UPZ: Pioneers of House* via Soul Candi Records — one of South Africa’s defining electronic music labels — said it plainly in the title, while *Best of UPZ (2007–2019)* via his own imprint, soWHAT Records, closed out a remarkable first chapter.
Now UPZ moves forward on his own terms. New singles “Some Lovin’” (feat. Kali Mija), “Na Wose,” “Walking On Water” (feat. Sofiya Nzau), and “Boom Boom” (with Beenie Man) mark a return that feels less like a comeback and more like a continuation. Alongside this, a new alias — Fynite — explores AfroFusion, signalling an artist who refuses to stand still.
